What is sexting?

Sexting is the term which umbrellas sending, receiving, or forwarding pictures, videos, text messages, and voice notes which are sexual in nature.

Is sexting immoral or illegal?

There are a lot of concerns that come with sexting, and a lot of sexting horror stories that have been circulated. But provided both parties are consenting and above-age, and no images are shared forward without the consent of the person who features in them, sexting is legal and perfectly moral. The issues within sexting arise when sexual violence, breaches of trust, and disregard for the law come into play. How to initiate sexting?

So, we know that sexting is great, but how do you actually do it?

First of all, timing is key. Make sure they’re not at a baby shower or a funeral or something similarly important when you send the first flirty text. When that hurdle is cleared, ease into it. Send something that’s obviously suggestive without being too overpowering. A not-so-clothed but not-fully-naked selfie, or a ‘I can’t stop thinking about you’ text is along the right lines.

Don’t stray too far out of your comfort zone. The term ‘sexting’ is pretty vague and can range from a flirty message to full-on nudes. It’s fine to get your heart beating a little, but take it at your own pace.

And the lighting. And the pose. If the camera’s out, put some effort into those sultry pics: wear something you feel sexy in (if you wear anything at all) and take photos that create a bit of intrigue. Shoot from angles that show erogenous zones of the body. For example, if you’re taking a topless mirror photo, or one from above, include your mouth but not the rest of your face.

There’s no rulebook. Experiment with taking photos until you find what makes you look and feel the best. And for future reference – keep some sexy photos in your camera roll so you can respond quickly if a sexting session takes you by surprise.
